The Bloomberg Philanthropies’s Initiative

TANZANIA

Among others, the Foundation has awarded a charitable grant to The Bloomberg Philanthropies’s Initiative on Maternal and Reproductive Health Project in Tanzania, to provide birth companionship in supported facilities, especially in the Tanzanian regions of Kigoma, Monogoro and Pawani.

It promotes support to the following areas of activity:

  • Increase access to antenatal care during pregnancy: women benefit from assistance provided by skilled attendants (midwifes, nurses and doctors) during the birth and receive appropriate antenatal, delivery and post-partum care.
  • Organize training workshops for women and their families, in particular when there are signs of pregnancy complications.
  • Make improvements on emergency obstetric care.
  • Provide technical assistance, such as relevant material for training.
  • Provide and implement standards, birth policies and guidelines for the health workers.
  • Ensure the empowerment of staff to improve their quality of care.
